New Orleans

What percentage of all processed sugar used in the U.S.A. do you think comes from Domino in New Orleans? (Answer below)

Domino ships out those little restaurant sugar packages used for coffee and iced tea in 2,000 lb sacks. About how many packages would be in that sack? (I don't know the answer to this one. You'll have to have Mr. Kelly's help ... or can you figure it out on your own?)

The pictures I took in the Domino manufacturing area may not all be sugar processing equipment, but I was fascinated by the amount and complexity of the metal structures.

Take a close look at the man walking the dog. He seems to be in full stride, but in fact he's completely motionless. Some people think he's a statue at first. I don't know how he does it but he changes position only rarely.

The video shows the paddle wheels of the steamboat tour around the port of New Orleans that Mike and I took. It's now diesel powered steam. Still it is steam that propels that paddle wheel.

The field shown in one picture has a great and sad story connected to it. On and near it the last battle of the Revolutionary War was fought. According to one source, 385 British soldiers were killed and 1186 wounded. We lost 13 with 58 wounded. The sad part is that the treaty had already been signed about two weeks before and the word had not yet reached New Orleans.

The answer to what percentage of processed sugar for the U.S.A. comes from Domino in New Orleans is, according to our guide, 70% ... quite a remarkable figure.
