Late start. Mike called his dentist. We waited at motel for return call. Based on dentist's advice, Mike's going to try to tough it out with over the counter medication. If he can't, he's going to need to find a root canal specialist.
We made no special stops, but did for quite a while follow the old Lincoln Highway, which has many abandoned businesses and quiet communities along it. That also was way slower than the interstate.
We did make it to Cloverdale, Indiana, around 8 pm. That's a ways past Indianapolis and about 200 miles from St. Louis.
Two last train notes from yesterday ... and then we're done with trains.
One, the railroads sometimes use sand to help the trains complete their trips? What do they use it for? And why did they study the sand carefully before making use of it?
The other note: After spending a lot of time on the internet looking at pictures and video of Horseshoe Curve, Mike initially felt like he was right at home ... until the first train came. He thought it much more impressive in person than the internet could ever convey.
